Textual analysis science fiction

Lucy
Genre
To me Lucy has two sub genres one; action and the other mutation
made in 2014. Science fiction action film written and directed by Luc Besson and
by his wife Virginie Silla for his company Europacorp. The film was shot in Paris and New York City. It stars Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Amr Waked and Choi Min-sik. Johansson portrays the title character, a woman who gainss inhuman abilities  when a drug is absorbed into her bloodstream

key conventions
There are many examples of things that show the viewers that this film is sci-fi. The trailer showed future technology, amazing special effects and also a bit of violence. There are signs of science fiction and action within the first five minutes of the movie which gives the viewers an idea of what the movie is about.

Target audience
In my opinion Lucy is targeted at teenagers and over because some of the concepts displayed are not suitable for young children and they might not understand certain things however the technology that is used In the movie would stand out to teenagers+ if it was being advertised on tv/online or in the streets.

Auroa
Genre
Within the few seconds of me watching the trailer to Auroa I noticed that there was a robot on earth which fits into future technology, from watching the trailer I think its about these scientists having a plan to build a female robot and programme it so that it can recognise certain things and adapt to the human environment.

Key conventions
When I was watching Auroa the first thing that jumped out at me was the future technology and the idea of having robots on earth mixing with humans another thing that caught my eye was the fact that there was some kind of problem and you couldn't tell weather the robot was causing it or was created to try and prevent it. From seeing the trailer I wanted to see the rest of the movie and during the trailer I noticed that the word dystopia was used.

Target audience
I think that this film could be a family film but could potentially have some mild violence in it. It would probably be in the interest of teenagers and people that might have seen previous movies from the same company expecting to see something around the same level or even better.

The Leviathan
Genre
This movie's thriller because there is a massive scary Biblical sea monster that seems to be disturbing peope in their every day lives.

  1. Hi Rashida
This is an excellent start- well done. Please finish the work for homework! :)
WWW- You write very nicely and you have approached the work thoughtfully and included a number of examples of genre specific language (such as 'future technology' and 'human environment') that show your understanding of the exam topic so far. Well done! You have also started using words like 'conventions' which is a good example of media language.
EBI- This could be improved even further if you were thinking of yourself as an analyst of the text rather than reviewing the film. So instead of saying, 'what jumped out at me' try saying 'The effect of this on the audience is...' instead.
    Thanks
